What is Index Cooperative (INDEX)
The Index Cooperative (INDEX) token is the native governance token of the Index Cooperative. Holders of the INDEX token can participate, propose, and vote on changes to the Cooperative’s smart contract, products, treasury and more. It aims to facilitate community-driven ownership and governance, promoting the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization.

The Index Cooperative ("Index Coop") is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that builds structured DeFi products and strategy tokens. Index Coop offers a suite of sector index products, leverage and inverse products, and yield-generating products. The product suite runs on Set Protocol, an audited, self-custodial DeFi tool that allows for the creation and management of Ethereum-based (or ERC-20) tokens.
Changes to the DAO are voted on by the owners of a governance token called INDEX and then implemented by a team of developers. INDEX holders wield voting power on a 1:1 basis, meaning one token equals one vote.
The Index Coop maintains one of the largest partnership networks in the DeFi ecosystem. The DAO works with external product partners to launch products. For example, the product partner behind BED is Bankless DAO, though the product is powered by The Index Coop. The Index Coop also partners with protocols to include their respective tokens in structured DeFi products or strategy tokens. Additionally, Index Coop products are composable, meaning they can be used as building blocks in other DeFi applications. For example, tokens like DPI can be lent on Aave or included in other indices.
Index Coop smart contracts and Set Protocol V2 smart contracts are publicly viewable on the blockchain.
